Construction site fencing: models and opportunities

Construction site fencing plays an important role in terms of security. For this reason, we have decided to pull together this detailed information on the different types of construction site fencing currently being sold, the materials used and the appropriate Cavatorta products available.

MAIN TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION SITE FENCING

There are different types of construction site fencing. Below are the most common ones and their characteristics.

Galvanised and self-supporting electrowelded mesh

Electrowelded mesh panels are normally installed on metal posts fixed into the ground, or alternatively, into concrete blocks.

Advantages

  • Great value for money
  • Simplicity and speed of installation
  • High permeability and resistance to atmospheric agents

Main type of sites used at
This fencing is best employed in temporary construction sites where simplicity and speed of installation are essential and the aim is to fence a specific area for a short period of time.

Orange polyethylene mesh

This type of mesh is usually fixed with wire to iron or wooden posts set into the ground. The links are typically 5 cm x 5 cm with a thickness of approximately 2 mm. Because of its dimensions, the link is used in combination with electrowelded mesh in almost all cases. In fact, the paired installation of electrowelded and polyethylene mesh produces a solid, safe and clearly visible construction site fence.

Advantages

  • Great value for money
  • Simplicity and speed of installation
  • Resistance to atmospheric agents
  • High visibility and good shielding power

Main type of sites used at
Polyethylene mesh is typically used in stationary construction sites outside town centres.

Metalic blind fence

Galvanized steel panels inserted between two upright mountings with a shaped profile. These can be installed directly into the ground or anchored to curbs and road barriers. This type of fence requires special attention during installation as its structural features make it vulnerable to overturning with strong gusts of wind.

Advantages

  • Privacy
  • Highly impassable

Main type of sites used at
Ideal for fixed or long-term construction sites or where there is a need to prevent the risk of outward dispersion of splinters, debris or spray.

Wooden blind fence

Wooden panels typically fixed with nails and iron wire to wooden posts or tubular metal fixtures set into the ground or concrete curbs. This type of fencing requires a detailed and expensive installation procedure as well as reinforcing struts to ensure stability, even in windy weather.

Advantages

  • Privacy
  • Possibility of partial reuse of wood

Main type of sites used at
Wooden fencing is used in specific settings, for example, historic centres or construction sites where building regulations require special attention be paid to aesthetic aspects.

WORK SITE FENCING BY CAVATORTA

Cavatorta offers two specific and advanced solutions for work site fencing. We describe them both briefly below.

Mobitec

This is modular fencing made of panels supported by a reinforced concrete base. The cladding, in high-strength, electrowelded rectangular mesh, is welded to the centre of a tubular frame.

Mobiclic

This is a temporary type of fencing for construction sites, comprised of electrowelded mesh panels with a modular interlocking system. These are mounted on hot-dip galvanized-steel posts. The base of the system in completed in high-visibility PVC or reinforced concrete.

The panels are bonded to each other while the steel pole structure also performs an anti-intrusion and burglary prevention function. The longitudinal and transverse wires of the mesh are made of hot-dip galvanized steel as well. This combats corrosion caused by atmospheric conditions.
